Product Description

The ABB MS116 (often called a motor protection circuit breaker / manual motor protector) combines overload (thermal) and short-circuit (magnetic) protection with a front rotary isolator—ideal for direct-on-line (DOL) starters and local motor isolation. The range covers adjustable FLA settings up to 32 A (variant-dependent) and is designed for fuse-less protection with fast magnetic tripping on faults. Typical performance includes Ics 50 kA @ 400 V and Icu up to 75 kA, with trip class 10A, temperature compensation, trip-free mechanism, and clear ON/OFF/TRIP indication. The 45 mm module width saves panel space; accessories (aux/signal contacts, shunt/undervoltage releases, lockable handles, feed-in blocks) are shared with MS132 to simplify stocking. Use with ABB contactors to build compact DOL/RV starters

Frequent asked questions

How do I size an MS116 for my motor?

Choose the FLA setting range that contains the motor’s nameplate current, then dial the exact setting on the front scale. Example ranges include 0.10–0.16 A up to 25–32 A (variant-dependent).

What short-circuit capability should I expect?

Typical MS116 variants provide Ics ≈ 50 kA at 400 V AC with Icu up to 75 kA—check the exact unit’s data sheet for your voltage. Coordinate with upstream devices as required.

MS116 vs. MS132—what’s the difference?

Both are 45 mm wide and share many accessories. MS132 is the “powerful” line in the family; selection typically depends on desired ranges, options, and coordination with contactors. For higher currents, see MS165
