I/O & protocols: standard 4–20 mA (sink/source); add HART or Modbus RTU for diagnostics/SCADA. Relays: optional 3× SPDT for local alarms/shutdown. Do I need relays if I already have a DCS/PLC?

Not always. Relays are convenient for local horns/shutdowns; if the loop goes to a PLC/ESD via 4–20 mA/Modbus, relays may be optional.
